The Reason Home app requests access to the user’s location in response to a privacy policy change in Apple’s iOS version 13. The Reason Home app is used to setup the Reason ONE smart alarm clock. When the user adds a new smart alarm clock in the app, the app will need to access the name of the local Wi-Fi network to which the app is connected. During a subsequent step, the app will also need to access the name of the Wi-Fi network created by the smart alarm clock. This Wi-Fi network is only active temporarily for exchanging login information between the app and smart alarm clock.
With the advent of iOS version 13, the app now must obtain the right to access the user’s location before the app can get Wi-Fi network names. The app does not use the user's location in any other way; the app does not process, analyze, or persistently store the location information. On the other hand, the app does use the Wi-Fi network names obtained to finish setup of Reason ONE and connect it to the Internet.
Having access to the user's location information is a prerequisite for the user to add and set up a Reason ONE smart alarm clock successfully. That said, you may take the following considerations to guard your privacy:
- When prompted to give permission to access your location information, please choose Allow While Using App.
- Whether you have given or rejected location access, you can always change it at a later time by following these steps:
1) Go to your iPhone Settings.2) Tap Privacy.3) Tap Location Services.4) Find "Reason Home" in the list of apps.5) Allow/disallow the app to access your location information.
